Future Songs is a concept album. The original idea was to have a fictitious future band singing songs about the past. Those songs would then be a comment on our present.

Dragonfly started out as a solo project in my home studio, mixing electric guitar with instruments I had only played for a few years: the pedal steel guitar and some selected electronics. Gradually, the whole thing grew into a kind of virtual band, including two fabulous musicians from South Africa, as well as featuring a string quartet based in Switzerland.

The Future Songs concept had crossed my mind three or four years ago. In the meantime, the world has changed in many unexpected ways. So have my ideas. Regarding the future, I was therefore lost for words more often than not. Consequently, most of the songs have grown into instrumental pieces. Some of the scarce lyrics are still reminiscent of the original concept, while others have turned out a little more personal.
